Lace, Lace, Lace: Dark and gothic-inspired thoughts on fall by Malina Joseph

há 195 meses

Fall has arrived and with this transitional season comes a bountiful crop of new trends to incorporate into your wardrobe. Designers switched off spring’s high-voltage color, electric like a Times Square billboard, and presented a dark and gothic-inspired collections that will have many feeling like an extra in a Wes Craven film.

While Rodarte’s Japanese thrasher movie-inspired collection of torn web-like knit dresses in blood red is sure to win best dressed at any art gallery opening and costume party, one can still exercise femininity and reality by incorporating a derivative of this dark trend into every day garb-Lace.

Now this is not your grandmother’s lace handkerchief or an excuse to wear intimates reserved for private functions in public (this is never allowed) but a less precious subtly suggestive touch of delicacy. Best example was seen at Prada, where the designer presented a variety of lace skirts, jackets, dresses and accessories that gave a hint of what was underneath.

If you prefer not to risk being burned at the stake for heretical head-to-toe fashion victim than try updating more classic looks with lace stockings, gloves or handbag. On the subject of witchcraft, Alexander McQueen’s corseted gothic ballerina with magnified lace snowflake appliqués is spellbinding.
