Remembering Diana
Hi Dolls! Today I wanted to talk about something that has never been talked about here (at least publicly).
Most of you will recall her because 21 years after her tragic death, her name still lives on. You may not have even been born when she died, or you were too little, like me. I was just 2 years old and even thought I didn't know her and never knew personally, I feel like I know her. I could always feel her touch in my heart, for what she did was extraordinary. Some knew her for her style, others knew her for her amazing charity work. Gracious, stylish, generous and warm. Yes that's right. I'm talking about the Legendary Princess Diana. I know her death aniversary was on the 31st August, but I wasn't able to post earlier, besides, it is never late to talk about her!
She was really a beauty and style icon, she was what every girl dreamed to be at the time. And she was smart. She took advantage of her image and used it for good. She used her power to change the world. She shook hands with a person with AIDS when no one else would, shocking many people at the time who thought it was dangerous. Sadly, now people prefer to idolize a girl who needed a certain amount of money to become the youngest billionaire in the world and doesn't plan on sharing. But Diana did.
She gave hospitals materials, making sure the patients had better care. She helped hundreds of institutions like animal protection agencies, mental health clinics, drug addiction facilities, leprosy groups, and charities that helped children, the elderly and even the homeless. Prince William recalls one time she took him and Harry to see the homeless with their own eyes so they could underestand how hard it is for them to live.
One of her most famous causes has the removal of the landmines in Angola, being the patron of HALO Trust, she raised awareness worldwide and since then landmines were forbidden by law. Just days before her tragic fate, she was in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the same reason and there's a famous photo of her that I particularly like, embracing a landmine survivor.
I always cry when I see videos of her hugging children. Her touch was considered to heal. if not physically, at least emotionally. Princess Diana was an angel that made the world better, and I just wanted to let youngsters know who she was, because even though her name is still alive in the gossip magazines, many don't know what she did, what she changed, so I felt I had to say something.
Unfortunately, Diana had a very sad married life, in her marriage to Prince Charles who was cheating on her. She felt alone. She was followed by paparazzi everyday, people constantly invaded her private life and she described a "normal day" as being chased by four cars of paparazzi. But, like I said, she used all this attention in her favor and drew it to her causes, and found a way to be happy. Many of them still work today, being undertaken by her two darling boys: Prince Wiliam and Prince Harry.
Diana once said she wanted to be Queen of people's hearts and she was. She really was and still is.
