thank u, next

Recently, Ariana Grande dropped the highly anticipated music video for "thank u, next." Referencing iconic 2000s movies, the music video was everything and more! For this blog post, I thought I would style some outfits taking inspiration from the four movies referenced.

The first movie we see referenced in the video is Mean Girls. With my first outfit, I went for a classic look that's perfect for the Plastics. I went for a pink cardigan, and styled it with a metallic plaid mini skirt. The cardigan reminded me of something Karen would wear, and I could totally see Gretchen wearing the plaid skirt. To accessorize, I chose some strappy heels, a mini handbag, a dainty necklace and a pair of gold hoops (Gretchen wasn't allowed to wear them!). With my next outfit, how could I leave out the iconic Juicy Couture velour tracksuit? Whether you're a cool mom or a member of the Plastics, this was a 2000s staple, and seen on many celebs, from Paris Hilton to Britney. I kept the outfit simple, choosing a pair of fluffy heels and a necklace. You could style the pants with a tank top, or the jacket with a floral mini skirt.

Moving on to the next movie, which is Bring it On. My outfits were inspired by the Toros with a color palette of red, black and white, but if you want to channel the Clovers, stick to green, yellow and orange pieces. For my first outfit, I layered a bright red turtleneck with a black v-neck and mini skirt with white stripes. To accessorize, I chose a red scrunchie, black socks and white sneakers. For my next outfit, I paired a sporty crop top with a matching black and white skort. These sneakers are perfect as they have red accents. I completed the outfit with a black cap and duffle bag.

The next movie reference was 13 Going On 30. Compared to the other three movies, these outfits saw a lot more knee-length skirts and dresses. For my first outfit, I chose an off-the-shoulder 'peasant' style blouse, pairing it with a pastel knee-length skirt. I added a pair of strappy heels and a classic 2000s mini bag. The orange adds a nice pop of color to the outfit. You could add a pastel cardigan and a dainty necklace or earrings to complete the outfit. For my next outfit, I went for a cute blouse and cardigan, a floaty floral skirt, mini handbag and sandals. To complete the look, add a hairband. You could swap the cardigan for a trench coat.

Finally, the last film referenced was Legally Blonde! Elle Woods' outfits are the epitome of 2000s 'valley girl' (think Cher Horowitz and Paris Hilton), with the camis and halter tops, sequin bikinis, Tiffany jewelry and everything in a different shade of pink. For both of my outfits I went for a casual take on her style, but for a dressier approach, I would go for a pink blazer and a matching skirt, or a halterneck dress. With my first outfit, I chose this argyle jumper layered over a classic blouse, highlighting Elle's preppier outfits. I then chose a pair of capri jeans with cute bow detail, and pink accessories; the cap, mini handbag, and strappy heels. For my final outfit, I paired the off-the-shoulder blouse with a silk floral skirt. The top would work perfectly with the capri jeans too. I then chose a pair of baby pink shades and a hot pink bag to complement the floral print on the skirt and completed the outfit with some white sandals.
