    BCBG fall 2011, Imaxtree

Turtlenecks aren’t just for librarians and Roger Moore these days. The classic look can be spotted coming back with a vengeance in pre-fall and fall 2011. Lanvin’s ladies-who-lunch interpretation went back to the garment’s more conservative roots, complementing an oversized wool coat and leggings. Meanwhile, the former queen of Studio 54 Diane von Furstenberg used her retro tops like scarves, poking out of jackets and shirtdresses to add a pop of bright green or maroon. But it was BCBG who progressed past the overtones of matrons and ’70s scenesters. They layered the entire fall 2011 collection (gowns included) over skin-fitting, white turtlenecks. Not only did this give the show a sleek, sophisticated feeling, but this styling technique also highlights an effortless way to transition an outfit from day-to-evening. If you can part with the newest addition to your wardrobe, that is.

You know when you can not decide if something is actually pretty hot or just not, we call it just attractively ugly. The flared jeans are hot in the celebrity world and not something that should stay in the 70's, on the contrary, they are coming back! Here are some stars that really can pull off the trend, what do you think about flared pants, hot or not?

Apparently there is to be a film adaption of the novel “The Carrie Diaries” by Candace Bushnell, a sort of prequel to the SATC movies. And apparently, according to the rumor mill, Blake Lively is being taken under consideration to play the young Carrie Bradshaw. We can totally see it. As a kooky, girl-next-door, fashionista, Blake Lively would do a great job. But what do you think? And the real question is, who will play the young Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte?

Kirsten Dunst plays muse for designer Scott Sternberg in Boy by Band of Outsider’s spring 2011 campaign. The star previously posed for the label’s spring 2009 lookbook and video, marking an ongoing collaboration between fashion and film- especially where the young, style-concious Hollywood crowd is concerned. The ads feature mock Polaroid shots of Huntington Botantical Gardens, where Dunst (decked out in pleated skirts, silver oxfords and  linen blazers) fishes, frolics and daydreams amongst tropical plants. It’s easy to imagine that the highlight of her day is the animated tea party with a Babar-esque stuffed elephant. The other-wordly feel seems straight off a Wes Anderson set. But such quirky touches also suit Dunst, who is known for her bohemian fashion choices offscreen.

Kanye was recently the cover-boy for the latest issue of Vman. The photos were shot by none other than Karl Lagerfeld himself. While we can all agree Kanye is a tad obnoxious, his latest album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” is regarded as quite a masterpiece, and there’s no denying that the  guy certainly has style, so the cover is really no surprise. However, it is a little strange that THE Karl Lagerfeld decided to photograph Kanye West. We know that music and fashion are often intertwined, but still… So what do you think of his photo shoot?

The maxi-skirt is the look of 2011! We have seen everyone from Rihanna to the Olsen twins donning this fabulous new trend and many of our favorite designers sending these flowy frocks down the runway. Whether it is a warm day, too cold for bare legs, or you simply forgot to shave, the maxi skirt is a great piece, only needing a few simple accessories to complete the look.

Photo: Retna Designers gain inspiration from many different things. Politics, culture, music, and Justin Bieber’s hair. Never say never! The teen sensation, whose 3D movie Never Say Never comes out in theaters on February 11th, is the muse behind  Barbara Tfank’s New York Fashion Week presentation. Barbara Tfank is the designer behind Michelle Obama’s incredible sense of style and victim of Bieber fever. Tfank told Style.com, “It has a sixties reference that works well with my clothes.” The designer’s show will have female models dressed in denim, leather, and wigs inspired by the Bieber cut.
