Exploring Different Cultures
Recently, a friend of mine visited Italy, Sweden, Thailand, Ghana, and Kenya. He told me that he was very shocked at the contrasting cultural practices that each country possessed. He knew that these countries were different with different people, but that still did not prepare him for the eye opening experience that he had.
As soon as I heard this, I immediately googled each country and read a bit about them. I discovered tons of things I did not know before and realized how ignorant I was to the different cultures of the world.
I found myself comparing my country to the USA. I love both countries quite a lot even though there are drastic differences between them (the USA being 1st world and Guyana being 3rd world).
The world is bigger than we think it is. And it holds so much to discover that one cannot simply see all that there is in one lifetime. Spend some time watching a documentary about a tribe, or an island, or another country. Take a break from watching funny cat videos on YouTube and look at a video based in a country that is unknown to you. Find out something new about someone's tribal or religious or patriotic practices.
I find it is very enlightening to find out something new about the world, especially since I live in it.
