Be Different, but be Equal
I recently had the opportunity to meet Sir Ian McKellen who plays Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and Magneto in X-Men. He is a huge inspiration of mine, and it was an absolute pleasure to meet him. Sir Ian delivered a speech on equality. He first showed us that we were all part of a minority- there is something unique about all of us. This is what makes humans different and interesting.
He then went on to discuss how not only had he experienced bullying because he was different, but he had bullied another person himself. I can relate to this, I will openly admit that I have said hurtful things in the past that I regret doing so, all because someone is different. It is so easy to find yourself either side of the line.
Sir Ian then explained how he was able to express himself and his emotions within acting and how he was able to forget about his differences and do something he loved. We should all find something that we love, to help us forget our differences, and to be and feel equal.
