Invest in a Chi now if you haven’t yet: according to the runways, you’ll be spending a lot of quality time with your straightener. One of the biggest hair trends coming out of New York is sleek, flat-ironed hair—even on ponytails. So if you’re one to keep up with the latest looks, you can forget any association the pony’s held with slept-through-the-alarm, didn’t-have-time-to-do-my-hair convenience. But for all the extra work, at least no one came blame you for being lazy. For each of these ponies, use a smoothing cream or serum to make your hair easier to work and style, and don’t forget a spritz of hair spray before you head out!

While we may have to say goodbye to Christofer Drew’s cheery sing-along solo melodies, fear not: you will be pleasantly surprised with the release of Never Shout Never‘s new album Time Travel coming out tomorrow. Drew’s following may have started when his 15-year-old self discovered what a MacBook and a garage band could do, but with with the addition of  friends Caleb Denison (guitar/drums/percussion), Taylor MacFee (bass), and Hayden Kaiser (guitar, percussion), Never Shout Never is now a force to be reckoned with. Their new record Time Travel—produced entirely by the band themselves—will take listeners far away. Grab the CD, check out their headlining tour, The Time Travel Tour, kicking off September 22nd, and read what Drew has to say about it all!

Southern beats aren’t just all banjos and harmonicas, though the brothers of NEEDTOBREATHE do play mean ones. Hailing from Seneca, South Carolina, the rock band comprised of Bear Rinehart (vocals, guitar, piano ), Bo Rinehart (vocals, guitar), and childhood friends Seth Bolt (backing vocals, bass) and Joe Stillwell (drums) is taking the world by storm—if not by their Southern charm, then by touring with Taylor Swift and their soon-to-be-released fourth record, The Reckoning, out September 20th. We had the pleasure of speaking with the Rinehart gentlemen about their “incredibly country” childhood, learning from Elvis, and the struggle to find manly guy’s jewelry. If their Southern accents don’t hook you, their music will.

Whether they’re soaring through the sky or scaling tall buildings, superheroes satiate our thirst for adventure, special abilities, and mass popularity. We might not have super powers or spend our Friday nights fighting crime, but we understand their need to look the part (awesome) while doing it. Masked, armored, or aerodynamically amped, these caped crusaders have shape-shifted themselves into sartorial icons that have inspired many designers. Take a look at these fact vs. fiction similarities and tell us which is dynamic duo is your favorite!

Fashion Week’s known for all the unique visions, refreshing color combinations, and sometimes shocking trends…and the same can easily be said about the hair and makeup. We’ll be honest though—there’s nothing like the quintessential element of your everyday all-natural look: the nude lip. It’s understated, it’s wearable, and it won’t distract from your killer outfit. Based on the spring 2012 runways, here are five perfect nude lip colors.

Spring 2012 Fashion Week is in full swing here in New York, and we’re ogling over all the flowy, romantic, I’m-so-glad-I-was-born-a-girl looks that the upcoming season has to offer. For spring, designers are garnering a truly womanly vision: we’re seeing less androgyny and architectural/geometric lines and more of the feminine flavor that makes dressing up so much fun. And what better way to begin than paying tribute to one of the prettiest shades on the spectrum: pink. Below, check out 10 ways to wear pink next season as inspired by the shows so far at NYFW.

It’s the first official day of New York Fashion Week! Ekkk!! While most people are well-rested and prepared for a week without sleep and constant running around, we already hit that point about a week ago, so the next seven days are going to feel extra intense. The past few nights we’ve been working well past 1am, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to let up anytime soon. It’s amazing the amount of work that comes up last minute when preparing for these shows! This includes finding out we need pipe and drape (and that it’s not supplied by the show production team), waiting on the show sponsor delivery, organizing logistics with the hair and makeup team; the list goes on and on… Our main focus over the past few days has been our model fittings; we are almost finished, and everything is looking great. We couldn’t be happier with the product this season. I am so excited to show it to everyone! There is no doubt in my mind that this has been the best collection yet. The hardest part has been deciding which model should wear what. And because it is a runway show and each model has a change, we must decide the order of the garments not only based how they look, but also how much time the model will have to change in between her looks, which makes it a lot more difficult.

While sneakers may not be the most glamorous pair in the footwear world, we think that it’s time they stepped out of the shadow and into the light. We’re not talking about your classic Reebok running shoe here. (Imagine those paired with your favorite skinnies, yikes!) Sneakers may have a bad rap, but after checking out the ones we’ve picked, those preconceived notions are bound to fade. Instead of faking sick for gym class to sit on the bleachers, you’ll be itching to go. While you may not be the fastest in these kicks, you will undoubtedly look the coolest. And if your gym teacher gives you a problem, tell them to talk to us!

Some actors and actress just have chemistry. They simply exude attraction and fully convince audience members that their love is true love, even though we all know it’s a movie. (Except remember how Freida Pinto and Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire started dating because of the movie?) It doesn’t make it any easier on us to accept the fact that they’re not actually dating. In our opinion, just date already! Come on, you filmed awkward romance scenes, surely you can make a real-life relationship work?

This past weekend was definitely crazy…between the looming threat of the hurricane plus the duties of the show, there was a lot to think about. I retreated back to CT where I thought I would be safer than the island of Manhattan and set up shop there. This turned out to be a not-so-hot idea: my friends that stayed in NYC had no problem and things ended up being a lot more severe in CT with loss of power, and roads and trains closed down! Luckily, overall the storm was a lot better than most people predicted.
