Isaac Mizrahi showed his first collection in 1987, at a trunk show at Bergdorf Goodman. Since then, the brand—and the man behind it—has been through dozens of ups and downs. He officially “came back” when he started designing for Target in 2002. Eventually, Mizrahi returned to
New York Fashion Week and took up his rightful place in the Bryant Park Tents. This season, he’ll sit out the season for the first time in years. A publicist says, “We will be releasing images this season in lieu of a show.” It’s a bummer that Mizrahi’s typically theatrical presentations and colorful dresses won’t see a runway, but even more so if the lack of a show indicates greater financial troubles. Meanwhile, your disappointment will either be heightened or lessened by learning that Avril Lavigne will make a triumphant return to New York Fashion Week. The singer, who’s really big in Japan, last showed her
Abbey Dawn collection here in September of 2009. Since then, she’s released a fragrance, recorded a song for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, gotten divorced, finally released a new album and started dating Brody Jenner. Her collection, which is sold exclusively at Kohl’s, will get the runway treatment at the Metropolitan Pavilion on September 12th.
