Ten Questions: Dana Lorenz

156 महीने पहले

Dana Lorenz

We love the statement pieces that fill Dana Lorenz’s Fenton/Fallon lines for their pretty, punky, and in-your-face-creations. Always a proponent of layering-on the baubles, Lorenz trained her eye at Donna Karan and Gucci, where she learned the importance of mixing mediums. For her, luxury is much more than having the funds to sponsor a healthy shopping addiction—instead, it’s all about the little things in life, like a candlelit bubble bath or a much-needed glass of vino.

ELLE: What is your favorite smell?

DL: When my friends and I road trip out of the city, upstate. I love that moment when you open the car window and all you smell are leaves and cut grass. I also love Abd el Kader by Cire Trudon.

ELLE: What do you consider the epitome of happiness?

DL: My dog, Blitz.

ELLE: How do you define luxury?

DL: Luxury can mean many different things to different people. To me, you don’t need to be rich to have luxury. Fresh flowers are a luxury. A candlelit bath and a glass of fine wine can be a luxury. A great piece of art is a luxury. Anything you acquire or do for yourself as a reward is a luxury–if you know you deserve it.

ELLE: What is the last dream you remember?

DL: It’s a recurring dream and I just had it again over the weekend. I’m singing Kiss Them for Me by Siouxsie and the Banshees on stage at a huge venue for, like, 50,000 people. No idea.

ELLE: What’s your favorite childhood memory?

DL: Going to my Great Aunt Lal and Uncle Earl Fenton’s home and playing dress-up in her closet, playing Chinese Checkers, and drinking those tiny V-8s in the metal cans meant for Bloody Mary’s. I always ended up with a stomachache but I thought I was so chic.

ELLE: What’s the last book you read and loved?

DL: The Steve Jobs biography. Everyone that is an “Apple person” should read it. He changed the way people interact and utilize information, but this book can teach a lot regarding the approach to a fulfilling life.

ELLE: Describe your home’s aesthetic.

DL: I love Rosalind Russell’s Beekman Place home in Auntie Mame. Though I do not redecorate as much, it’s what I have tried to achieve.

ELLE: What are your vices?

DL: I actually cancelled my Time Warner Cable account to prevent myself from watching TV. I loved LOST and Alias, Downton Abbey…I even love Revenge. Trouble is, I ended up buying them all online via iTunes and spent a small fortune. Needless to say, I had the cable reinstalled.

ELLE: Describe yourself in 5 words or less.

DL: Passionate. Stubborn. Discerning. Generous…

ELLE: What possession will you never throw away?

DL: My Alice Neel lithograph.
