Solar Eclipse Safety
Hello dolls,
This summer much of North America will be able to view a partial solar eclipse. Those along the path of the eclipse may be able to experience the moment of total darkness when the moon aligns and blocks the sun. NASA will tell you the location of this path.
The safest way to enjoy an eclipse is to not look at it directly at all. There is genuine concern over items marketed as safe. Value your eyesight. Enjoy the eclipse by preparing to view it indirectly.
It is easy to create a simple pinhole projector. Get a letter size piece of heavy paper and use a pin or large needle to create a hole in the center. Being careful not to look at the sun, hold the paper to the side and move it around until you see a crescent shape of light projected on a surface, like the sidewalk.
During the last partial eclipse I took my paper outside and realized I didn’t need it. I looked on the patio tiles and saw hundreds of light golden crescents. The leaves in the trees in the yard were acting like hundreds of pinhole projectors. I looked back at the house and the entire front was covered with dancing crescents as the wind blew thru the trees. I stood entranced until the crescents faded and were gone.
Don't risk your eyesight. Take reasonable precautions and experience the magic.
