Real Life Halloween Costumes
With October 31st swiftly approaching, everyone is busy thinking about ways to dress up! Will you be going spooky, cute, or somewhere in between? Here are some tips for your real life Halloween costume.
Store Bought Costumes
There's nothing wrong with wearing a store bought costume, but it's often hard to find ones that aren't revealing. If wearing a revealing costume is safe, appropriate, and empowering for you, go for it - but for everyone else, there are some ways to get around it. Many store bought costumes can be used as accessories to spice up a base look - just wear jeans and a simple shirt underneath, or use the most important accessories for the theme with your own clothes. You could also just buy an accessories set, like a pair of cat ears and a tail that you can wear with a simple black look and some facepaint whiskers!Offensive Costumes
When considering your costume for this year, please steer clear of ideas that could be offensive to others. Halloween is supposed to be a fun excuse to dress up, but many of the costumes we see are sexist, racist, or otherwise discriminatory - and that's just not okay. Make sure you think through your costumes well - ask yourself if they are portraying groups through stereotypes, or appropriating someone's culture. Think about how your look will make others feel!DIY Costumes
Making your own costume can be a fun and creative way to create a unique look for Halloween. There are plenty of tutorials online, or you could come up with an exciting new idea and figure out how to bring it into reality! What are you going to be this Halloween?
