The People's Designer
With Jeremy Scott's birthday on Monday, I thought that it's the perfect time to look back at some of his designs that were brought to Stardoll! I love the references to pop-culture (he was responsible for Britney's iconic air hostess outfit in Toxic!!) and overall kitsch aesthetic in his designs.
Even though we haven’t had a tribute store yet (the Moschino tribute was pre-Scott), his designs have been staples for many Antidote collections (see above). Jeremy Scott and Antidote are the perfect match up, with the stores' concept being the edgy sister of Limited Edition.
As the creative director of Moschino since 2014, his debut was Fall 2014. The collection was a tongue-in-cheek take on 'Fast Fashion' with a McDonald's pun, and also included a twist on Chanel, Spongebob, a lot of gold, and not to forget the fries iPhone case! There were also clear references to past collections: the slogan t-shirts (‘I don’t speak Italian but I do speak Moschino’) and gold branding, which along with the cartoons and novelty phone cases, would become staples for future collections.
Lastly, we have a bag and knee-high boots inspired by Moschino Fall 2015 and a Jeremy Scott x Adidas jersey (right), and pieces inspired by Spring 2016 (left). Fall 2015 is definitely my favourite! I was (and still am!) obsessed with the first few looks in bright block colours – very TLC – and the other references to 80s-90s hip-hop (Jerseys, dungarees, gold chains and graffiti).
Overall, my favourite Moschino collection is Fall 2015, and my favourite Jeremy Scott collection is Fall 2016. What are yours?
