You may have heard the phrase "labels are for cans". This has a special meaning for me - it means that judging a person for how they seem on the outside is not an appropriate way to treat a fellow human being. The only person that can define you is you.

If you saw me walking on the street, you might label me as a sleepy, dreamy, away with the fairies university student, because that's what I seem to onlookers. If you were to ask me how I would define myself, however, you would find a very different answer.

Passionate. Human rights activist. Empathetic.

There are many ways I would describe myself, and none of them are obvious just by looking at me! This is why I try never to judge people from the outside. This doesn't just go for me - it is easy to assume things about people from their outward appearance! Perhaps you see someone in a wheelchair and think of them as "disabled" - but have you asked them? They might define themself very differently: blogger? World traveller? Athlete?

Remember dolls - the only person who has the right to define you is you.
