The Pros and Con(tour)s

Contouring is hugely popular right now, both in real life and on Stardoll. People contour to accentuate their facial structure, whether it's the cheekbones, forehead, or nose. I can safely say I'm not much of a makeup afficionado, and me and my doll have never really tried out contour. Today, though, I created a very basic contour in Stardesign Hair, and it's been a very interesting experience.

 

 

In the "before" picture on the left, my doll's face looks fairly flat. The nose I use doesn't have any definition past the base, but I've always liked its simple buttonish shape. Maybe I've just gotten used to it, but I don't mind this simple look.

 

Then I added some contour....whoa! In the picture on the right, a mere 5 pieces of hair have made a huge difference to my doll's face. It's a very unprofessional start - going back, I would definitely make some slight changes, but I can definitely see why people like the accentuation that contour allows. I feel like it makes my eyes look a little too far apart, and the shape of the nose feels strange to me, but again, that's probably just because of my uninformed designing!

 

Overall, I can definitely see why some people (and dolls!) love contour. It can completely redefine your face in a wonderful way. I'm still not quite convinced it's a great choice for me, but maybe, with practice, I'll grow to enjoy it.
