Back to School:Handling Stress & Anxiety

Hello all! Beatrix here.

Today's back to school article is a highly requested one, dealing with stress and anxiety.

A lot of you may not know, but I struggle with a diagnosed anxiety disorder in my everyday life. If you know someone who deals with an anxiety disorder, you should know that they often realize that what they fear is irrational; but they have no control over the intense amount of panic it gives them.

Dealing with Stress and Anxiety at School:

Even if you don't have an anxiety disorder, you probably experience it a few times during school. Maybe over a test, making friends, homework or speaking out loud to the class.

Coping Strategies:

1. Singing a certain song. For me, this usually does the trick to ease my anxiety in small amounts (but it works almost instantly.) Find a song that helps you calm down and sing it to yourself when things get tough. Mine are Be Okay by Oh Honey and Close as Strangers by 5SOS.

2. Deep Breathing. Now, deep breathing doesn't really work for me, but it could for you! Take a few deep and long breaths, and it may calm you down a little bit.

3. Calm yourself down, and focus on the situation. What's the worst that the situation could end in?

Having Panic Attacks at School:

Yep, it happens. To those experiencing panic attacks - it's utterly terrifying. If you're about to have a panic attack at school, you need to tell the teacher so you can isolate yourself by going to the councilor's office, the bathroom, or any other private place. From there, get a drink, splash your face with water and do what you need to do to feel better.

Alright guys! Hope you liked this article.
