Marc Jacobs spring 2011, Imaxtree.
Liza Minelli, Bianca Jagger and Jerry Hall have all conquered the wide-leg trouser and sleek jumpsuit back in the day. Now, for spring 2011, designers like Diane von Furstenberg (a former disco queen herself), Marc Jacobs, and Gucci are bringing back the lost era of outlandish partying and style with retro tributes such as flowing maxi dresses, big shoes and even bigger hair. If you’re putting together a scene worthy outfit, here’s what to consider:
Longevity: When dressing with the ’70s in mind, it can be difficult to look like you came from Studio 54 and not a laughable B-movie. Some versions of the trend, like the highest of high-rise pants, are firm period pieces, so don’t count on them to be in fashion even a season from now. For example, look out for boot-cut in fall 2011. But others, like vibrant stripes, are always reinterpreted season to season.
Wearability: These looks range from the challenging (wide belts) to the simple (bold prints). So no matter what you’re comfortable wearing, there’s always a way to inject a little funk into your daily wardrobe.
Personality: The ’70s was all about glam. Can any of us forget those images of women in plunging necklines and towering platforms shaking it on the dance floor? If you need to tone it down for your own style and day-to-day life, try flashes of glitz like gold lamé accents, floppy hats or chunky, piled-on bangles. Though we see nothing wrong with running errands in a full-on look from Cleopatra Jones. Save vs. Splurge?: Save. Era dressing is better served in small portions. To get in on the trend, look for wild accessories at high street prices. But in the decadence of the ’70s speaks to you, buy clothing that can transition beyond the hype with a little styling.

In a season typically dominated by neutrals, designers added a punch of color with Crayola-colored pants. On the runway, separates came in every color of the rainbow, but street style-wise, red and pink seems to be the color of choice. Whatever color you pick, this is one trend you can wear now with a sheer tank and sandals and later with a sweater and heels. Here are our picks:

Photo: Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta opened this morning’s bridal show with a bikini—like starting with the honeymoon and working backwards. Other than that, the show was a traditional presentation of what de la Renta does best. His showroom, on Seventh Avenue, was full of budding cherry blossoms and a classic waltz and he sent out a parade of dresses—down an aisle, naturally—covered in delicate floral embroidery and white lace. A bohemian looking silk organza caftan topped the bikini; after it came ruffled trains paired with bolero jackets, a knee-length strapless white dress with a rabbit fur skirt, and cotton-candy colored blue and pink organza pieces in both long and short. Almost everything was topped off with veiled Patricia Underwood hats that’d work as well at a garden wedding or Ascot as they would on a bride. And though “classic” is the word best used to describe the collection as a whole, de la Renta included just enough non-traditional silhouettes to gain a more modern bride’s interest. Whether you’re looking for Witherspoon-pink or Middleton-tradition, de la Renta has you covered.

- Angelina has just launched another jewelry collection, but this time its not all snake bracelets and necklaces! She has gone all classy and artistic for a good cause! The collection is called "Jolie Style" and Angie collaborated with designer Robert Procop and its so amazing, it was even put in a museum in Beverly Hils for display! Before you get excited, the display is by invitation only and all the profit made from the sale of the exclusive pieces will go to Angie's charity Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. Here is a video clip showing off the jewels. They are typical Angie, now that she is all grown up and classy. Would you wear these?

- Whoa! We could hardly even recognize supermodel Agyness Deyn when we saw these pictures of her leaving a café in Primrose Hill, London yesterday. She has packed on quite a few pounds on her usually slimtastic body and there were no signs of make up nor her signature fierce style. She looked just like any other young British adult! Is it a clever disguise for the non runway seasons or has she taken a serious break from the fashion industry and everything that comes with? Time will tell.

- Robert Pattinson is probably one of the hottest paparazzi targets the world has ever seen, so it's no real wonder that he has grown pretty tired of them. They are constantly chasing him wherever he goes, and he is in true disbelief at the lengths some of them are willing to go just to get a good picture. To Elle Magazine, he recently revealed that some of them even brought drug dealers to his car, just so they could get a good shot! Shocking! We feel truly sorry for the guy.He explained, "A bunch of paparazzi were following me, and I thought the best way to deal with it was to stop my car in the middle of the street and say, 'I'm not leaving, and I'm not going to speak to you anymore.' They got all p**sed off because they can't just keep taking the same picture. They kept trying to get all these drug dealers to come up to the car. I was like, 'Oh my God, this is insane."He did however add that one day, he will make sure they get a taste of their own medicine! He said, "When the whole thing dries up and there's hardly any paparazzi around - I don't know, in 15 years or something' I like the idea of just one paparazzo coming out and trying to get a picture, and I just beat the s**t out of him. I mean, out of nowhere, when my picture's not even worth (money), and I've spent all my money, so you can't sue me!"Too bad you can't get an restraining order against paparazzis, eh?

Who: Emma Roberts
What: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
Wear: Dolce & Gabbana frock, Brian Atwood “Maniac” platform pumps
The increasingly in-demand Emma Roberts got a little dotty on The Tonight Show yesterday while promoting her latest project, Scream 4. Donning a Dolce & Gabbana spaghetti strap spotted sheath dress and freshly-coiffed blonde locks, the rising star looked as wholesome as American pie, but kept it edgy with marigold sky-high heels by Brian Atwood. Armed with a mega-watt smile, the new horror thespian let her golden girl personality shine through. Clearly talent runs in the family.

- We spotted The City star Whitney Port take her younger sister Paige out shopping in Los Angeles yesterday. Whitney was sporting a new strawberry blonde hair color which we definitely approve of, and her hip outfit made her deserving of her fashionista title yet again. We were beginning to worry that she might of lost all her interest for fashion since we kept spotting her in one hideous outfit after the other after her show was canceled and she was forced to move back to L.A. So it's good to see that she got her fashion priorities straight again!

Clémence Poésy worked fashion magic at the grand opening of “Harry Potter: The Exhibition” earlier this week.
