Octavius the Octopus – What do you really know about giving out personal information?

We are all so used to the internet these days that it’s easy to forget that everything we put online will stay online – forever.

Everything from the regular chats we have with our friends to images we post on the internet will remain there long after we’ve forgotten about them so common sense would suggest we be a lot more careful about who and what we share online.

It’s dangerous to share personal information online because:

- If you do not know the person you are communicating with they could pose a danger to you and/or your family.
- Embarrassing photos, videos or even insulting comments could come back to haunt you in future.
- You could also become a victim of ID theft or fraud. This means someone could hijack your identity and pretend to be you as they commit various crimes with you getting the full blame for any nasty business done.

If you’re unsure of what kind of personal information you can and can’t share be sure to check out the One-Stop rules.
