Stockholm (February 24, 2012) – Stardoll reported today that under the veil of complete secrecy and with the artist in question "nowhere to be seen" - a '
Banksy' style takeover of their virtual museum,
Museum Mile, was executed last night.
Imitating the style and tactics of the ever secretive, yet highly renowned graffiti and street artist – a person or persons styling themselves PRANKSY - staged an overnight art bombing of all the Stardoll Museum's exhibition spaces.
For the millions of Stardoll fans worldwide this "stunt" was little short of momentous. The cheeky takes on contemporary art include a stenciled
David Hockney sweeping
Damien Hirst's work under the rug, street art bunnies inflating ear-shaped balloons in the somber environment of the Van Gogh gallery and the inevitable
Justin Bieber graffiti.
The Pranksy takeover was 'discovered' by Stardoll Friday, February 24th and members have been flocking to the site to see the creative mayhem and get their Pranksy originals.
The exhibition had been a closely guarded secret since last October, with just a couple of Stardolls aware that it would be taking place. The exhibition curator was one of those who knew about the show. "We ran a bit of a risk but we know that it was just the right thing for the site. PRANKSY is our homegrown hero", he said.
