The 5 Love Languages
Hi Dollies!
I’m returning with another study of personality. A couple of years ago, I read a book called The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, where he determined the ways people felt the most connection through, i.e. their love languages. They are:
- Words of Affirmation
- Acts of Service
- Receiving Gifts
- Quality Time
- Physical Touch
My Love Language is Physical Touch, and it’s not as intimate as it seems. A heartfelt hug, or even a supporting hand on my shoulder is enough to make me feel loved and cared for.
Of course, this doesn’t have to just apply to your significant other; my close friends have also heard about it. I’m aware that one of their love languages is also Physical Touch, so every time we meet, we greet and bid farewell to each other with a long hug. My other friend’s language is Quality Time, she’ll still give me a small hug out of courtesy, but we tend to spend more time socializing. She’s a great listener and gentle speaker, and I try to mirror that back during our conversations.
You can usually tell what someone’s Love Language is through their choices and preferences of action around you. Chapman has a website where you can better learn about this topic. Because I’d heard about the book with my friends through church, we were able to discuss it together and figure out our individual languages after that.
Next time you spend time with a special person in your life, notice what makes them light up, identifying and communicating with their Love Language will definitely strengthen your relationship and increase joy in both parties.
What's your Love Language?
Take care,
♡ Joanne
